Las Vegas Local News, Actual News Or Entertainment Media for Tourists?
If you have resided in this city for more than a few months, I’m sure that you already know exactly what I’m talking about in regards to our local news broadcasts being some of the most bizarre, entertaining, and presented in a completely off kilter style that makes me wonder sometimes if they are actually aware of some of the things they tout as “breaking news.”
While I am more than happy to avoid the gloom and doom of newscasts that focus entirely on who died today, what caught on fire, or how many boxes of kittens were ran over; I have to admit that the over optimistic portrayal and avoidance of “real issues” makes me a little nervous.
Assuming that there is more crime in this city than the news is letting onto is a perception I am willing to deal with, though when I think back on the past year the most memorable story I can recall is the “Astronaut Love Triangle” scandal.
As the over abundance of celebrity obsessive paparazzi gossip trash news is finally coming to a slow, all I can is that I truly hope that the networks see the social change in the media before it’s too late and our morning news is preceded by “The View.”
My hope is that Las Vegas can continue to evolve culturally and intelligently and start putting more focus into what really matters and the issues that impact the lives of our local community.
Keeping the”buzz news” to a focused minimum and re-evaluating what the locals in the valley really need to know about and what affects our lives directly should be a top priority for not only our city but for broadcasters, blogs and other media outlets everywhere.
