When It Rains It Pours, Local Artists Forced To Move Out Of State
As I was talking about yesterday, the financial crunch and lack of jobs in Las Vegas was really starting to eat at me.
Come to find out today my father took my name off of the only credit card (and supplementary emergency source of income) we had and we now have exactly $26.00 to our name. As sad as it is, we don’t even have the money now for the fees for my husband to take the classes to become a taxi driver and it looks like our only option is to move into one of our parents homes.
Being 25 myself, and my husband at 27 I am humiliated and angry that we can not find income to support ourselves. We are talented, unique, hardworking dedicated individuals that are now being forced to move back in with our parents due to the financial crisis here in the valley, in our own homes, and across the country.
While I was touched that the song from “Once”, an independent film from Ireland received the Oscar for Best Song this year, I have to say our culture is forcing us further and further away from dreaming about being an artist. They don’t coin the phrase starving for your art for no reason.
I am run thin and depressed, and am now looking at an across the country move to a state I am not familiar with in a place where I do not consider home.
Please if there is anyone out there in the valley that has any immediate openings, from one artist to another, please contact me. This is my final plea for help as far as staying here goes, it may already be too late and we may have no choice.
